A MESSAGE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF:
The City of Bridgeport Fire Department is made up of a combination department utilizing a full-time paid staff of 23 members along with a volunteer organization with over 25 members. We handle Fire/Rescue, search and rescue operations, hazardous material response, and water rescues and EMS calls and are on many calls every day. In 2008, we responded to a total of 2212 calls with 1,721 consisting of Emergency Medical Calls and 491 on all other calls. These responses included all fires (structure, vehicle, trash, brush, dumpster, electrical and outdoor), emergency medical calls (ALS- advanced life support, BLS- basic life support, and first responder), auto accidents, rescues, special assignments, bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, Aircraft standby and mutual aid calls.
All members of the department strive to make our community a safe environment to work and visit. I encourage anyone, whether they be a citizen or visitor, to stop by our station so that we can meet you on a personal basis. We encourage you to let us know how we're doing and how we might improve the manner in which we meet the needs of those in which we serve.
