Bridgeport Benedum Festival

The Bridgeport Benedum Festival celebrates the contributions of the late Michael Benedum, 1869-1959, a native of the small city. Benedum left Bridgeport to find success in the oil and gas industries and in business, but the city never left his heart. He restored the cemetery, built a church, and constructed the civic center here. In 1995, a group of three Bridgeport Lion's Club members began the festival as a way to remember the famous "oil wildcatter" and his contributions. Civic organizations have always played a part in making the festival a success. The festival is held each July near Benedum's birth date. The events have steadily grown and now attract thousands of people.
